intersurf [2014]

for bass clarinet, guitar, violin and cello

This piece is an examination and exposition of the nuances of a surface material through different perspectives and magnifications. It serves as a sonic representation of visual processes, inspired by cuts, zooms and fades to alter the fringe between optical and aural materials. intersurf is a continued study of locality: a fascination of how the location/locale of a given performance effect the performance itself. This is approached by combining notated and improvisatory sections for the performers, allowing them to interact personally with the material given them in the piece : revealing a new angle of the surface.
